Pre game dinners that finish before the first whistle
Five fast dinners to plate by kick off so the second half is for the sofa.
Cooking before a match is timing math. Whatever you cook has to land plated and eaten before kick off, which usually leaves you forty minutes from front door to first whistle. Most weeknight recipes do not respect this constraint. The ones that do all share three properties. One pan. Six ingredients. No waiting.
The fifteen minute rice bowl is the workhorse. Rice cooked in the pot, protein seared in a pan, sauce whisked together while everything else cooks, all assembled in one bowl. Honey garlic chicken over rice in fifteen minutes is not a fantasy. It is what happens when you read the recipe before you start cooking and prep everything before turning on the heat.
Pre seasoned protein is the cheat code. Salt the chicken or the steak the moment you walk in the door, before you do anything else. By the time you have the rice on and the vegetables chopped, the salt has done its work. The protein cooks faster and tastes deeper than the same protein hit with salt in the pan.
Skillet dinners hit the same brief in a different format. One pan, protein and starch and vegetable together, the pan handed straight to the table. A creamy garlic chicken rice skillet feeds four from a single pan in twenty five minutes. The dish washing is also pre game friendly.
Five plates that go from cold kitchen to served dinner before the anthem ends.
